Academic research assistant (m/f/x)
Reference number W2159, salary in accordance with the German TV-L salary scale1, pay grade: E13 TV- L, duration
of employment: until 31.12.2025, volume of employment: 100 % of standard working time.
Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, Chair of Applied Mechanics
The Chair of Engineering Mechanics deals with research in the field of continuum mechanics. Special focus is on the
formulation of models on different scales, numerical implementation of the models and experimental validation.
Concrete fields of application are polymer materials, mechanical metamaterials, structural properties of cables and
cable systems, and biomechanics.
Job requirements and responsibilities:
You will be part of an interdisciplinary team working on a third party funded project concerning the development of
smart implants (www.wernersiemens-stiftung.ch/en/projects/smart-implants). Your essential task is to simulate the
mechanical conditions in the fracture gap and the interaction of bone, fracture and implant. Additionally, you are
experienced in setting up mechanical experiments and in numerical simulations based on the finite element method.
Your academic qualifications:
- Completed scientific university studies in the field of engineering science
- Fluent German and English language skills
1 TV-L = collective agreement on remuneration of public sector employees in the German Länder
The successful candidate will also be expected to:
- Your earned experience in mechanical testing of components, especially in the design of experiments, and
parameters identification by inverse methods
- You have experience in scientific computing, simulation using FEM and CAD
- Software: Abaqus (or comparable FE-system), Matlab, Phyton, LabView, MS Office, LaTeX, Origin

Pay grade classification is based on the particular details of the position held and the extent to which the applicant meets the requirements of the
pay grade within the TV-L salary scale. Part-time employment is generally possible.
