The Faculty of Humanities is inviting applications for the following position commencing 01 October 2022


Lecturer with specialist teaching duties (m/f/x)
Reference number W2127, salary in accordance with the German TV-L salary scale1 , pay grade: E13, employment: 50 % of standard working time. Duration of employment: unlimited. The position may be extended to full position after one year.


Workplace/Department:
Within the English section of the Department of Language Science and Technology of the Faculty of Humanities, you will be joining the team responsible for teaching language and translation-related courses of the BA programme Language Science and the MA programme Translation Science and Technology. Our students acquire knowledge in linguistics, corpus linguistics and computational linguistics as well as translation and language technology in an interdisciplinary context. Research-informed and practice-led learning opportunities delivered in a friendly atmosphere prepare our students for modern work environments in multilingual communication.



Job requirements and responsibilities:



  • Teaching courses on a scientific basis in the field of English language teaching (e.g. grammar, phonetics, oral and written expression) and, if needed, general and technical translation from German into English. Your teaching load will be eight hours per week

  • Preparing and conducting the corresponding examinations

  • Further development and administration of the teaching programme




Your academic qualifications:



  • Completed university studies in a subject area relevant to the teaching position; sound knowledge of and experience in the didactics and methodology of foreign language teaching; practical experience in the field of translating German – English; PhD desirable




  • Language skills (according to GER): native English and excellent knowledge of German



  • The successful candidate will also be expected to:

  • Teaching experience in the field of translation, preferably at university level

  • Experience with computer-assisted translation

  • A sound knowledge of communication technologies for networked teaching

  • A willingness to participate in academic self-administration

  • Organizational skills, flexibility and creativity

1 TV-L = collective agreement on remuneration of public sector employees in the German Länder The pay grade assigned to an employee depends on their professional qualifications and the number of years of service. Each pay grade is further subdivided into levels. Entry-level employees with no previous experience will initially be assigned a level 1 rating. After one year at level 1 of the E10 pay grade, an employee will move up to level 2. After a further two years, the employee will move to level 3, etc.
